The
Major Place & Duration of Camel Safari
Tour itineraries of 2 to 7 days can be arranged traversing approximately
40-50 kms a day on camel. These itineraries are planned in the region of
Bikaner, Khimsar, Osian and Jaisalmer, and stretch from anywhere between 2
to 7 days, with longer ones of up to a month. A day-long camel safaris which
just about give you a glimpse of the desert are also organised. The majority
of camel safaris start from the desert fort town of Jaisalmer. Nights halts
are usually given near the village to provide opportunities to mingle with
the local village people and to be aware of the traditional way of their
life and culture. Besides one camel per pax on the safari, a camel cart
accompanies the tour to handle the luggage and allow riders to relax as and
when required.
The tours operated by the tour operators generally include three meals a
day, tea/coffee, two mineral water bottles per day, an escort and tents on
sharing basis, kitchen tent, toilet tents with pit system, foam mattresses
and entertainment by local artisans.

When you start for a camel safari, be aware of few things. Remember that
you’re travelling through the desert - it’s dry, and if you’re
not careful, you could get dehydrated. Drink plenty of water- at least 2 to
4 litres a day- and keep yourself well covered, to prevent sunburn. Wear a
sunhat and sun glasses and apply suntan lotion on your body, if you don’t
want your skin to start peeling.
