The Magnificent Mehrangarh Fort of Jodhpur
Mehrangarh Fort located in Jodhpur city in Rajasthan state is one of the
largest forts in India. The most attractive thing about this fort is that
this is situated on a lofty height of 400 feet above the city, and is
enclosed by imposing thick walls. This majestic huge fort is built by the
red sand stone. Inside its territorial boundaries, there are several
palaces, which are known for their intricate carvings and sprawling
courtyards. Mehrangarh fort is the most formidable and magnificent fort in
Rajasthan. The founder of this majestic fort was Rao Jodha in the year 1459.
After that subsequent rulers built and modified this fort. Main city is only
5 km away from this fort. There are seven huge gates in this fort. Jayapol
meaning victory was built by Maharaja Man Singh to commemorate his victories
over Jaipur and Bikaner armies. Fattehpol, one more gate which also means
victory was built by Maharaja Ajit Singh as a celebration for defeating the
Mughals. The Mehrangarh Fort, with its beauty, attracts thousands of
visitors every year from all over the world.

Sky Way : Regular flight services are available from Jodhpur
Airport. Jodhpur Airport is only 5km from the city's center. The airport

The Chamunda Mataji Temple
This was the favorite goddess temple of Rao Jodha. This temple is famous as
it was worshipped by remains the Maharaja's and the Royal Families. Now a
day, Goddess of this temple is worshipped by most of Jodhpur's citizens as
well.
Moti Mahal
Moti Mahal was built by Raja Sur Singh during 1595-1619. Among all the
Mehrangarh Museum's period rooms, Moti Mahal is the largest. Sur Singh's
Moti Mahal has five alcoves and believed they were built for his five queens
to listen in on court proceeding.
Sheesh Mahal
Sheesh Mahal, also known as The Hall of Mirrors. This is really a beautiful
and must watch place. The mirror-work in Sheesh Mahal includes large,
regular pieces.
Phool Mahal
The Palace of Flowers, Phool Mahal was created by Maharaja Abhaya Singh.
This was constructed during 1724-1749.
Takhat Vilas
Takhat Vilas was Maharaja Takhat Singh's Chamber. This was built by
Maharaja Takhat Singh (1843-1873) who was Jodhpur's last ruler to reside in
the Mehrangarh Fort. This Vila is a beautiful place made by blend of styles
and the glass balls on the ceiling.
Elephant's Howdahs
Elephants Howdahs were a kind of two-compartment wooden seat. This was
mostly covered with gold and silver embossed sheets which were fastened on
to the elephant back. This was meant for kings or royalty and rear smaller
ones for a reliable bodyguard disguised as a fly-whisk attendant.
